Innovations since 1968
Peter Labod founded Labod electronic GmbH in 1968 and developed the first milestones in the company's history. In 1971, the company presented its first thyristor motor controller. A compact 4-quadrant thyristor controller followed in 1972 and in 1973 a 4-quadrant thyristor servo controller was added.
Pioneering achievement in CNC controls
Another milestone was reached in 1974 with the introduction of the first CNC microprocessor control for centrifuges. With the expansion of production in Winnenden Birkmannsweiler in 1976, the company was further expanded.
Technological breakthroughs in the drive sector
Due to high demand, the company moved to new premises with a larger production area in Nellmersbach in 1981. A new transistor servo amplifier for DC motors was launched in 1981 and a transistor servo amplifier for brushless DC motors in 1982.
Division and sale
In 1988, Labod electronic GmbH split into the CNC Controls and Drive Technology divisions. The drive technology division was sold in 1989.
The company UniTek is founded
In 1991, Thomas Labod and former senior employees of Labod electronic GmbH founded today's UniTek Industrie Elektronik GmbH, initially based in Winnenden.
In 1992, the first thyristor motor controllers and three-phase servo amplifiers for DC and EC/AC motors were sold under the new name UniTek. Production was continuously expanded and relocated back to Nellmersbach.
Digitalisation for servo drives
At the end of the 1990s, the 1st generation of digital 3-phase motor controller and a new series of digital battery motor controllers for industrial AGVs were launched to the market.
The devices were being further developed
The device series of battery motor controllers were constantly being expanded and the digital servo drives were entering the 2nd generation.
Concentration on core competences
The partial production of assemblies, in particular PCB assembly, were outsourced to the company LNT (now fischer electronic solutions) in 2005.
Entering experiences
In 2006, the 3rd generation of digital three-phase motor contorllers and the BAMOBIL series were developed.
Strong with partners
We became an OEM supplier in 2010 with a battery motor controller for car conversions. From 2012, a customized digital controller for wind turbine rotors was developed and produced for a Danish company.
Since 2013, our battery motor controllers have been in use at the FSE/Formular Student Event, the largest student engineering competition in the world. We support the teams financially and with technical support.
In 2016, we became part of a cross-company system solution for a complete electric powertrain, consisting of a motor, controller and gearbox.
Since 2018, we have been supporting various colleges and universities in the development of power electronics and electric motor control.
Special and customised
We developed customised solutions for various customers in the industrial, aircraft and vehicle construction sectors, which are manufactured as a series by UniTek.
New developments
- Digital battery motor controllers with high outputs in the 48 V and 700 V range.
- New generation of digital controller with new processor architecture and user interface.
- Ongoing optimisation of existing software algorithms for more efficient and stable operation. Customer-specific requirements were implemented.
